Grade 8

THESE ARE THE REQUIREMENTS WHICH MUST BE COMPLETED DURING THE TWO YEAR CONFIRMATION PROGRAM AT ST. MARGARET MARY.  THEY CONFORM WITH THE ARCHDIOCESE OF HARTFORD’S REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

Instruction begins in Grade 8. There will be a mandatory parent/student meeting to explain the requirements.

ALL STUDENTS MUST BE REGISTERED with fees paid before they will be allowed to attend class and receive study materials.  A phone call and reminder letter has been sent to the family of each unregistered 7th grade CCD student in an attempt to confirm their registration and participation in the 8th grade confirmation program.

IT IS THE FAMILY’S RESPONSIBILITY TO REGISTER.  YOU CANNOT ATTEND CLASS WITHOUT HAVING REGISTERED.  MISSING CLASS BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT REGISTERED IS AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE.  HOME STUDY IS NOT AN OPTION.  ALL CONFIRMATION STUDENTS MUST ATTEND TWO YEARS OF CLASSES.

MORE THAN TWO UNEXCUSED ABSENCES FROM CLASS IN A PROGRAM YEAR DISQUALIFIES THE STUDENT FROM FURTHER ATTENDANCE OF CLASSES AND THEIR CONFIRMATION WILL BE DELAYED.

GRADE 8 REQUIREMENTS TO BE COMPLETED.

  • Registration and fee payment

  • Letter of Commitment - A sample of its form and content is below.

  • Attendance and participation in all classes.  Attendance will be taken.  A call to the family will be made by the Pastor or Deacon after the first unexcused absence.  A letter to the family will be sent after the second unexcused absence.  A third unexcused absence will result in dismissal from the program for the year.

  • Completion and documentation of 10 hours of approved service time.
    Community Service Report Form

Students will receive study materials at the first class.  They are responsible for bringing their study materials to each class if they are not kept at the class meeting location.

Students can complete Grade 9 Essay and Baptismal Certificate requirements in Grade 8.  While not required, it is encouraged.

Your confirmation teacher will help you complete your requirements.  He/she will gather and turn in your packet of completed requirements, along with the attendance record, to the Religious Education Office at the end of the program year.

The Sample Letter of Commitment is as follows. It must be typed and then signed.
